and totaled, under the okay tree -- under the oak tree. mine is blocked in the driveway. i have no idea when that will be free for me to drive. >> reporter: while jean is patiently waiting on pepco, a mile away, john is running out of patience with no power, a destroyed house and a sick caughter at home -- daughter at home. >> they have been given plenty of warning. exactly a week later we still have no power. >> reporter: pepco estimates most customers will be online by midnight,ton, however there are a few folks, like this man, who won't see power until at least sunday. for those without air conditioning the city of fairfax will have cooling centers open this weekend.

tomorrow the old town hall on university drive will operate as a cooling center. residents are encouraged to bring their electrical devices. it is a safe bet the cooling center will be crowded. we are under a heat alert. howard? >> reporter: j.c., once again, temperatures in the 90s. that happened early. the last couple of hours we have been in the 90s. with the heated some humidity around the heat index could get to 105 this afternoon, actually got expanded into the shenandoah valley. they thought hey, temperatures are climbing a little bit more quickly, so we are going to add them as well. we have actually seen the temperature drop a degree,

picture? drew levinson has answers. >> reporter: employers continued hiring in june. the economy added 80,000 new jobs. that was less than expected. and the overall unemployment rate remained at 8.2%. diana knows firsthand about the weak job market. she was laid off in the treatter industry. >> when you realize you are doing everything right and you are still not getting a job, it makes it so frustrating. >> reporter: the first half of the year the economy has gained an average of 150,000 jobs a month, down from last year. and a sign the labor market is losing steam. the retail industry, transportation and government all cut jobs in june. but manufacturing added 11,000, the ninth straight month of gains, healthcare and financial services also increase hiring. president obama commented from

distance. >> as i got closer i could tell it was a bird. i couldn't leave it there so i decided to give it a shot and see if i could grab it. >> reporter: the exhausted, frightened bird turned out to be a one-year-old bald eagle, sick and strand in long island sound. >> it had about a six foot wing span, it was very intimidating. it was a lot bigger when i pulled it out of the water than i thought it was. >> reporter: he placed the weakened bald eagle into his cabin. he immediately called his wife, an animal rehabilitate tore. >> refirst thought the eagle was blind, eyes were crusted over, very thin, it was crawling with lice. >> reporter: transported to donna's vet center for fluids and antibiotics, regained her eyesight and on to a new jersey raptor center. >> we called her indy for independence day and we knew finding a bald eagle was quite
